SUMMARY:Raise the Curtain
DESCRIPTION:An evening of music from musical theatre and opera\nPerformed with Hammonds Band \nWe are most grateful to choir members for their support of this concert. \nConductor: James Savage-Hanford\nAccompanist: Robert Sudall\nMusical Director\, Hammonds Band: Morgan Griffiths \nJoin us for an evening of music from the world of opera and musical theatre. Sometimes exhilarating and rousing\, sometimes reflective and poignant\, but always enjoyable. A combination of old favourites together with some unexpected surprises. \nThe programme will include opera choruses from Purcell\, Handel and Mozart\, The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and The Anvil Chorus by Verdi\, together with Mascagni’s The Easter Hymn. This collection covers a range of periods and operatic styles. \nMusical theatre will be represented by the Great American Songbook of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Carousel (You’ll Never Walk Alone) and a compilation from South Pacific. This is paired with a choral medley from the great Stephen Sondheim\, including Comedy Tonight and Send in the Clowns. \nWe are delighted to be joined by our good friends Hammonds Band\, one of the country’s premier brass bands\, under the expert guidance of their musical director\, Morgan Griffiths. They will enhance the evening by exciting works from their own extensive repertoire. \nPlease see the Tickets page for details of how to book tickets…

SUMMARY:Spring Concert
DESCRIPTION:Hope Springs in Song\nThis is a joint concert with the Overgate Hi-Notes and will be an uplifting evening of music with an emphasis on the new hope of Spring and the new year. \nAs the dark days of winter give way to the lighter\, warmer days of spring\, we look forward to nature’s awakening and the promise of renewal and better days ahead. \nThis theme is reflected in our Hope Springs in Song concert. The music has been selected to be uplifting\, positive and life-affirming. Music can have a transformative effect. It can chime with our inner-most hopes and fears\, and stir emotions in a way that other mediums cannot. We hope that you will find our concert to be inspiring\, energising and\, above all\, enjoyable. \nWe are delighted to be joined\, for this concert\, by the Hospice Hi-Notes. The Hi-Notes were a ‘pop-up’ choir set up in 2010 by Overgate’s psychotherapist\, Marica Binns\, for a one-off performance at a staff concert. The singers enjoyed themselves so much. That Eilidh Gunson (originally a doctor at the hospice and now working in a voluntary capacity) agreed to take over the choir as the musical director and keep them singing. \nThe Hi-Notes choir is made up of staff\, volunteers and supporters from Overgate Hospice and provides an opportunity\, not only to enjoy the music\, but to support each other through personal highs and lows as well as through the inevitable challenges of hospice work. They see themselves very much as a family! They enjoy a wide range of musical styles\, some of which you will hear during the concert. \nThe choir regularly perform at hospice events\, as well as offering independent concerts for groups including local churches\, the Women’s Institute and Retirement Homes. They are particularly privileged to be able to sing for the Overgate Carer’s group during the course of the year and\, on occasions\, to perform for patients and families on the inpatient unit. \nThey’ve enjoyed collaborative concerts with the Elland Male Voice Choir and the Greetland\, Stainland and Ripponden Community Choir and are now immensely looking forward to this new venture. \nThis is the first time that our two choirs have performed together in the same concert\, which is surprising given our common links to Overgate. We are sure that this is the start of a beautiful friendship with many more collaborations in the future.
